Contra Projects is a cultural initiative by and for artists from Latin America, the Caribbean, and our communities across the globe. A platform where we come together to share stories, question power, and build new ways of thinking through art and design. Through curatorial collaborations and discursive programs, Contra cultivates approaches that challenge sociopolitical frameworks and dominant cultural narratives, catalyzing exchange through exhibition-making and opportunities to gather.
Formerly based in a repurposed barn-garage in Rhinebeck, NY, Contra is evolving into a nomadic platform that can remain in conversation with the diverse territories, communities, and cultural contexts that shape our practice, as well as amplifying regional conversations while bringing them into broader transnational contexts.
This shift allows us to sustain relationships across borders, to weave a growing network of cultural practitioners, and deepen collaborations in the places where artists and communities are rooted. We seek to embrace movement as a gesture that reflects the realities of migration and affirms the value of exchange, solidarity, and collective knowledge across geographies.
